Live Auction: what it is and how it works

When you’re logged into the Motorway platform and looking at the Marketplace, you’ll see the auction, also known as the daily online sale.

The auction runs daily between 7pm to 3:30pm.

If your bid is too low, an error message will appear.

The proxy bidding system ensures you pay just £1 more than the second-highest bid. This ensures that dealers don’t overpay, and sellers still get a competitive price.

Buy It Now: How it works

The second tab under Marketplace is called Buy It Now, which shows vehicles available for immediate purchase at a set price or with a lower offer.

This sale runs continuously, with vehicles typically listed for 24 hours. Cars and vans enter this sale when they fail to sell in the auction.

Proxy bidding is not used in the buy it now sale so if you win a vehicle, the price payable is the offer you made.

Shortlisting: How it works

The Shortlist tab contains vehicles you’ve added by clicking the star on their photo. You can do this on the vehicle list by hovering over the image or in the top right hand corner on the vehicle details page.

From the Shortlist, you can view vehicle profiles, make or cancel offers, and remove vehicles by clicking the star again.
