What is KYC and why does it matter?
What is KYC?
KYC stands for Know Your Customer. It is a standard identity and business verification process used across different industries and other major auction platforms. This is to confirm that dealers are legitimate, registered businesses. It helps keep the Motorway marketplace safe and trusted for everyone.
Why do I need to complete KYC?
KYC is now a mandatory requirement for all dealers on Motorway. It is part of our commitment to maintaining a safe, compliant marketplace and aligns with FCA regulatory requirements. Since 2024, all new dealers already complete KYC as part of onboarding. We are now extending this to dealers who joined before it became a standard requirement.
I've been on Motorway for years without any issues. Why is this being introduced now?
We understand this may feel like an additional step, but KYC is fast becoming the industry standard across marketplaces. It protects all dealers on the platform by ensuring everyone buying and selling is a verified, legitimate business. The process has been designed to be as quick and easy as possible.
Deadline and consequences
What is the deadline to complete KYC?
You must complete your KYC application by 30th June 2026.
Why has my bidding access been removed?
From 1st July, dealers who have not completed KYC verification will have their bidding access removed and will no longer be able to bid on or purchase vehicles through Motorway. This is part of our ongoing commitment to security, compliance and creating a trusted marketplace.
How do I regain access?
Simply complete your KYC application. Once your KYC is received, reviewed and approved, your bidding access will be reinstated.
I submitted my KYC application before 30th June but it's still not completed. Why do I still have access?
If you submitted your KYC application before the deadline and it is currently being reviewed, you can continue to bid and buy vehicles while the review is ongoing.
I submitted my KYC application but have been asked for more information. What does this mean?
In some cases, our verification partner may require additional information to complete the review process. If this happens, our team will contact the primary account holder with details of the information required. You will have 14 days from the date of the request to provide the requested information. During the 14-day information window, your bidding access will remain active while we await the requested information. If you don’t provide within 14 days your bidding access will be removed until the requested information has been submitted and reviewed.
How will I know what information is required?
The primary contact associated with your dealership will receive email communications outlining the information required and how to submit it.
I have completed KYC. Do I need to do anything else?
No. Once your KYC verification has been successfully completed, no further action is required unless we contact you regarding future compliance updates.
How will I know when my KYC has been approved?
Once your KYC verification has been successfully completed, the primary contact on your account will receive a confirmation email. Your bidding access will remain active and no further action is required.
