1. How does Motorway collect the service fee from the seller?
We collect the fee right at the very end of the transaction, so you can go ahead and purchase the vehicle as usual.
If you pay for the vehicle via Motorway Pay, the service fee is automatically deducted from that transaction. The seller receives the money for their car with the service fee deducted.
If you pay for the vehicle directly by bank transfer, Motorway sends the seller an invoice and a payment link after the sale and collection has been completed.
2. Do dealers need to do anything differently?
No. Dealers can bid and collect as usual. Motorway is handling the service fee directly with the seller.
If the seller asks about the service fee, you can remind them that it is being deducted at the point of sale, if using Motorway Pay. Or, if you are paying directly, explain that Motorway will request the fee via a card payment after collection.
3. How much is the service fee for the sellers?
We are charging sellers on a tiered basis, based on the final sale price of the vehicle. The tiered pricing is below:
| Final sale price | Service fee |
| Up to £1,000 | Free |
| £1,000 to £4,999 | £29.99 |
| £5,000 to £9,999 | £49.99 |
| £10,000 to £19,999 | £79.99 |
| £20,000 and over | £99.99 |
4. Does the seller still have to pay the service fee if they cancel?
No. The service fee is only due if the car is sold and collected.
5. What will happen to dealer fees?
For the rest of 2026, there is no change to dealer fees. We will monitor the impact of the seller service fee on the marketplace over time.
6. Do we expect to have less stock if sellers are put off by the fee?
No. We have already conducted various market testing, and seller behaviour has remained consistent despite the addition of the service fee.
7. Will there still be paid listings?
Yes. While the service fee is a mandatory charge that applies on all sales over £1,000, the paid listings feature is an optional extra. Sellers still have the choice to pay to promote their vehicle in the auction and highlight that they are a committed seller.
